The Gee Bee Racer was custom built in 1931 specifically as a racer. This airplane was basically a huge engine with a stick and a seat behind it. The Gee Bee was made by the Granville Bros in Springfield, Mass. It won every race it ever flew in. However after some refinements the plane crashed in a speed record attempt, killing it's pilot. It soon became know as the "widow maker". The Gee Bee sported a 535 horse power Pratt & Whitney engine and was capable of speeds of 260+ mph. It had a wingspan of just over 23 feet. Our model of this true aviation icon is very colorful, red and white made of wood, cloth and metal.
